Who is it for?
Individuals who are running competitive retriever hunt tests this spring or fall at any level or would like to learn how to run hunt tests successfully.
What will be covered?
· Training methods to have your dog prepared for the setups you will encounter
· Ways to prepare yourself to do the best job running your dog
· Mistake-proofing your dog and yourself
· Learning to get into your dogs’ thinking before and during the test
· How to create ‘muscle memory’ for handler and dog
In this unique seminar, you will learn ways to prepare yourself and your dog for entry level hunt test stakes (Junior, Started, Certified), mid-level stakes (Senior, Seasoned, Advanced) and high-level stakes (Master, Finished, Master). This will include single and multiple marks and blind retrieves. There will be 12 dogs accepted who will do the work set ups, as time will only allow so many dogs. The rest of the attendees will observe the working dogs and participate in the discussion about what is happening and why. Observer participation will be strongly encouraged in terms of questions and observations.
Please plan for the weather for the day, which may be hot, pleasant, windy or cold. Bring a chair, sunscreen, umbrella, note-taking materials, water, snacks, etc. We will be providing soft drinks and some snacks. Please bring your own lunch. For those with a participating dog, make sure you have crates or means to have your dog put away when not running, just as you would do in a hunt test.
